Frostbite Scramble

Event Date:
January 30, 2021
Location:
Lucky Chuckys Beach Bar & Grill - 37238 Valley Rd, Oconomowoc, WI 53066

All proceeds support the Summit Police Department and Western Lakes Fire Department.

Join us as we "golf" on frozen Silver Lake in Oconomowoc.

Here is how it works.

The Timothy Gahagan Memorial Frostbite Scramble is similar to a 9 hole golf scramble but it's on frozen Silver Lake in Oconomowoc, WI.  "Golfers" use a tennis ball and any device to strike the ball from the ground.  Teams are comprised of 2-5 golfers with a shotgun start.  You do NOT need to know how to golf only how to have fun.

Can't make it?  Please consider a sponsoring a hole or providing a silent raffle item.  All money raised will go to purchase AEDs.

Course

Nine hole, par 35, 1400 yards.  Hole distances vary from a 75 yard par 3 too a 200 yard par 5.  Tee boxes are Astroturf and the green will be shoveled and relatively smooth.  The remainder of the course is un-shoveled.  Golfers must use a tennis ball (supplied) but can use any device to hit the ball provided it is hit from the ground.

There may be more than 9 holes to accommodate the additional golfers.  Golfers can play as many holes as desired but only the 9 holes from where they start will count for their overall score.

Volunteers & Spectators

We are in need of volunteers to help with set up, registration and general assistance. Volunteers and spectators are welcome to walk the course and cheer on their team or antagonize them. We DO NOT have a silent rule on the course.

"Rules"

  1. The ball may be struck with any instrument (including your foot) but must be struck while the ball rests on the ground. (you cannot pick up the ball and hit it)
  2. The ball should be hit from the T-box matt.
  3. Heckling other foursomes is encouraged
  4. If a ball from another foursome encroaches your play in any manner, you may "gently" move their ball - we recommend a good slap with a 5 iron.
  5. Max score per hole is 13
  6. Please repair all divots.

Best Ball Scramble Format

  • Play begins with each member of the group teeing off.
  • With the agreement of the other members of the group, the team captain decides which drive is the most desirable.
  • The other members of the group pick up their balls and proceed to the spot of the selected drive, where they will hit their second shots.
  • The best of the second shots is then chosen. The group will then hit all their putts (or third shots) from that spot.
  • This procedure continues until the ball is in the hole.
  • At the end of each hole, the score for the group is recorded on the card.
  • Golfers can play more than 9 holes but the final score will be based on 9 holes and awards will be based on a 9 hole finish time.

History of the event

In 2012, our father needed medical assistance.  That day, we realized how much our police, fire and EMS members contribute to our communities.  Almost immediately men and women rushed into our home, some still in their civilian cloths, to assist a family member.  Many of these men and women are volunteers and in an instant they dropped whatever they were doing in order to assist our family. We are immensely thankful for their dedicated service.

That day we decided we needed to give back to these heroes. That was the impetus for the Frostbite Scramble.  One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to the Western Lakes Fire Department and Summit Police Department to support the men and women who support our communities in our greatest time of need.

In October 2013 we made our last call to 911.  The brave men and women of the Western Lakes Fire Department and Summit Police Department were there to assist our family as they had numerous times before. Unfortunately, Tim left us two weeks later.  The event which now carries his name is in memory of Dad - Timothy Gahagan.
