2023 Lake Country Triathlon Traffic Impact

Schedule:

The Lake Country Triathlon is one of Wisconsin's premier triathlons bringing athletes from near and far to the Oconomowoc area. Over the years, we've had athletes join us from every state in the nation and even athletes from 5 different countries. This year, we expect to have another group of spectacular athletes join us on Saturday, July 29 for the 8th installment of the Lake Country Tri.

This triathlon is only possible because of community members, businesses, volunteers, multiple emergency and law enforcment agencies, and the numerous municiplalities who support it either directly or indirectly. We make every adjustment to our routes to maximize athlete safety while minimizing the impact to the residents of the communities this event touches. Thank you to everyone in advance for your support, patience, and understanding as our event may impact you.

The following information is intended for residents who may be directly impacted by the triathlon route. Information is provided so that residents can plan ahead and make any necessary changes to their schedules during the time of the event. If any resident has any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for more information. You can contact Alan Halfen, the Lake Country Triathlon Race Director at: alan@silvercirclesportsevents.com

Course Overview Map:

Wisconsin Avenue Closure During the Race:

- West Wisconsin Avenue will be closed to all vehicle traffic between 3:00 am and 2:30 pm. Westbound Wisconsin Avenue will be closed from North Lake Street all the way west to Ski Slide Road. Eastbound traffic will be allowed to travel on Wisconsin Avenue to Concord Road where it will be diverted to South Street on a marked detour. NO TRAFFIC may turn west onto Wisconsin Avenue or cross Wisconsin Avenue during the closure of the westbound traffic lane between 3:00 am and 2:30 pm. This includes all cross streets in the City of Oconomowoc.

- The Merchant's Plat area, located north of Wisconsin Ave is open, however, we would like to ask residents who live in this area to please limit their access in and out of the neighborhood with their vehicles between the hours of 3:00 am and 2:30 pm on July 29. Residents who need to leave in a vehicle may do so at Locust Avenue. The Oconomowoc Police Department will have an officer at this intersection who will work with residents to cross the event route safely.

- We also ask that all residents with a direct driveway on Westbound Wisconsin Avenue limit their vehicle access in and out of their driveways during the hours of 3:00 am to 2:30 pm. We would ask that any resident who knows they will need to leave during the hours of our race, please park their vehicle on a side street during our event. In the event that a resident must leave their driveway during the hours of the event, please be extra cautious for both bikers and runners. Please also remember that no vehicles may head westbound on Wisconsin Avenue. Only eastbound traffic is allowed during the event.

- Residents on the south side of Wisconsin Avenue may exit their driveways, but may NOT turn westbound. Residents should only turn eastbound and follow posted detour signs.

- Residents who live in the Village of Lac La Belle in the vicinity of Mary Lane, will also be direcly impacted by the triathlon course and Wisconsin Avenue road closure. The roads in this area will remain open to LOCAL RESIDENT TRAFFIC ONLY. Residents will be able to exit on Mary Lane to Eastbound Wisconsin Ave during the race -- we simply ask that you work with our Run Course Manager and the police officer at this intersection to cross race traffic safely. Alternatively, residents may also exit the neighborhood to the west via Ski Slide Road, which will allow access to Westbound Wisconsin Avenue and a posted detour route that will bypass the entire event.

Wisconsin Ave. Detour Route:

Vehicles may use the following detour to bypass Wisconsin Avenue and the event on Saturday, July 29 -- the detour route will have posted signs. Eastbound traffic may bypass Wisconsin Ave by turning south on Ski Slide Rd --> east on Rockvale Rd/Marks Rd --> south on Reddelien Rd. --> east on Chaffee Rd/2nd St. 2nd Street may then be taken all the way east to Main Street where vehicles can access downtown Oconomowoc and continue east on Wisconsin Ave. Westbound traffic will also be directed on this route in the reverse direction.

Race Impacts on Downtown Oconomowoc:

- There is NO PARKING on Wisconsin Avenue between Concord Road and N. Lake Street between the hours of 3:00 am and 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 29. Vehicles parked in this area at this time are subject to tickets and being towed.

- Because West Wisconsin Avenue is closed at City Beach, vehicles will not be able to drive to the Lac La Belle boat launch between the hours of 3:00 am and 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 29 and the parking lot will also remain closed during this time.

- The Oconomowoc Farmers Market has been rescheduled to Friday evening, July 28 and will be held at the Village Green in Downtown Oconomowoc from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. For more information, click HERE

- The Oconomowoc Community Center Parking Lot will be partially closed at noon on Friday, July 28 and fully closed at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 28 for event setup. Additional public parking is available throughout downtown Oconomowoc. The lot will remain closed until about 5:00 pm on Saturday afternoon. Please be sure to observe all posted parking signs throughout downtown Oconomwoc before and during the event.

- City Beach will remain open to the public. Spectators are encouraged to come watch an awesome and amazing event. Parking in the vicinity of City Beach will be very limited, and anyone coming to watch the triathlon or use the beach should plan accordingly.

Swim Course Impacts:

- The swim portion of the triathlon will take place in the very southeastern section of Lac La Belle adjacent to City Beach in Oconomowoc.

- Swim buoys will be placed in the area on Friday, July 28 and removed from the area promptly after the swim portion of the race at about 8:30 am Saturday, July 29. All boater traffic is advised to use caution before the race to avoid these water hazards. During the race, the Oconomowoc Police Department will control boat access to the area until all athletes have exited the water.

- We are asking all residents who live with water access in this area to limit their boat usage between the hours of 6:30 am and 8:00 am on Saturday, July 29. We would also like to ask other boaters using Lac La Belle in the morning on July 29 to limited their access to the east side of the lake until 8:00 am.

Bike Course Impacts:

- The bike course will take athletes out on W. Wisconsin Ave and then northwest of Oconomowoc through the rural countryside of Waukesha, Jefferson, and Dodge Counties. ALL ROADS ON THE BIKE COURSE WILL REMAIN OPEN TO VEHICLE TRAFFIC. Please use caution and look for riders on the roads between the hours of 7:00 am and 11:00 am on Saturday, July 29.

- Multiple law enforcement agencies will be helping to direct athlete and vehicle traffic at intersections. Thank you in advance for your patience as you may have to wait briefly for athletes to pass an intersection.

- There are TWO TRASH ZONES on the bike course where athletes will be instructed to dispose of any trash - this is a normal part of the race and these areas will be monitored and cleaned by volunteers during and after the race. In addition, several crews will be cleaning the entire bike course of any trash immediately after the completion of the race. Our goal is to leave the route cleaner than when we started. Please contact the Bike Course Manager (contact info above) if you see trash from our event and we will send a crew out to clean up the area.
