Random Runner Form

Todd Fries

How long have you been running?
I’ve been running for exercise since I turned 30, but never participated in a race until 2013 and, by sheer luck or happenstance, I won a medal and was hooked.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
I tried other races, experimenting with different events until I came across a race by Silver Circle. It was the DoLittle Marathon in 2017.  It was so well organized, the people so nice, that I never really went back to the other venues I had been frequenting.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
For me, it’s all about changing things up. Last year was about speed, but this year is about duration and distance. I want to do a 10K at the Flannel 5K and the same at Shake Your Shamrocks and then ½ Marathon at the Milwaukee Marathon on April 11. If that goes well, I really should try for a full Marathon before I get too old and regret it. Turning 60 in not too long, so this year is about getting my bucket list done. Have to wait and see how I do on the ½ first.

What Superhero do you relate to and why? Thor! He was my hero growing up because we are Norwegian and he was a Viking, so why not? Hammer Time!

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Team SCSE shirt and compression pants, knee supports and ankle support. Keeps me from getting hurt and reduces my post-race pain.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Special hoodie with a built-in face protector that I can pull up and down depending on the wind. I run at any temperature and consider it a challenge when it drops below zero. In those instances, I also use ski goggles and protect all exposed skin. I was ecstatic for the 2019 Frosty 5K when we kicked off the race at -15F.

What was your worst race experience?
At another race, they couldn’t figure out who won and had advertised age group awards, but only gave out awards to the top 3.  In addition, it took forever to announce and was not worth the wait.

What is your favorite race?
Probably Father’s Day. I like the course and it sort of starts my summer out with a bang.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Thank God! I’m uninjured and I did the best I could do. Now, did I win anything?”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
Did a 5K in 24:31 in 2015 at some race out in Menomonee Falls before SCSE.

Kaitlynn Davenport, or “Megaphone”

How long have you been running?
I have been a more serious runner for about 5 years, but I have been running on and off for triathlons since I was in middle school.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
I love the comradery! They focus on the runner’s experience, good courses, and a good time. I joined the team to find a community when I moved to Wisconsin, and found a second family. They push me to be a better runner, without making me feel bad about being a “back of the pack” runner.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Trailbreaker Half in 2020 and the Chicago Marathon. I’d also like to do some destination races and an Olympic triathlon distance.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Deadpool. He’s got a mouth on him, and I do too!

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Compression capris or shorts, Team SCSE tank top, and Goodr sunglasses. I hate being super hot and I hate the sun blinding my eyes.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Long sleeved loose shirt and compression pants.

What was your worst race experience?
Minooka Beer Garden 5K in 2018. I was DFL, my allergies were awful, it was super humid, and I got side stiches a half mile in that I couldn’t get rid of.

What is your favorite race?
A toss up between RAGNAR Great Midwest and S’mores 24. Both were races with amazing experiences with amazing people, all while pushing myself the hardest I’ve ever done.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“I did it! Thank goodness I’m done! Why do I do this again? When am I doing this again? Is there beer around?”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
My actual PR (42:07) came from a training run in perfect conditions, but I also got pushed off the sidewalk by a sandhill crane, tripped, biffed it, and still PR’d.
Before that it was the Elf run of 2018 (42:52).

Daniel Ledebuhr

How long have you been running?
I have been running since 6th grade, so around 18 years. My mom said I should join cross country and it all spiraled out of control since then.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
It is nice having something to look forward to. Running is tough for me if I do not have something that I am training for. Plus, the team members are all great people.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Marathon #2 is calling my name! Not sure where I plan on running it, though, yet.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Ironman, hands down! This is because I have a hip full of titanium due to an unfortunate accident. Feel free to ask me details about the accident. It is a very entertaining story!

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Nothing special. Just the normal shorts and T-shirt. Oh, and I also have to wear a hat or else my head will get sunburnt. I never learn…

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Layers on layers! Last winter was really the first time I actually “trained” in the cold. Realized it is a must to cover as much skin as possible.

What was your worst race experience?
As everyone, I have had some bad races but the worst one in memory was in high school. I lost a shoe at the beginning of a Cross Country race. It was too packed to turn around, so I ran a 5k with only one shoe. Funny now, but not back then!

What is your favorite race?
I am not sure I have a favorite race, but I always loved any race at Parkside. I would like to do an event there so I can run the course again.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
It used to be “Will I be able to walk through the chute myself?” because I always just collapsed after races. Now, I always look forward to the treats and beer!

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
17:40. This was done Junior year C.C. sectionals at Washington County Park. Our team missed state by just a few places!

Lisa Dickson

How long have you been running?
4 years. Summer of 2015 I started slogging along in hopes of not getting swept on my first half marathon (that I signed up for without prior training).

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Hot chocolate and fruit at the end of the races! Need I say more than that?

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Berlin Marathon and Big Sur

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Super Grover. We both have blue hair! Also, we both aren’t super graceful.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Sparkleskirts. The pockets are amazing!!!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
UnderArmour Cold Gear Leggings. I won’t run below freezing without them.

What was your worst race experience?
Dolittle half 2016. It was super hot and humid and I didn’t hydrate properly. Lesson learned!

What is your favorite race?
Twin Cities Marathon (currently… it’s open for debate) but how can a race with donuts at mile 23 not be my favorite?!

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“I didn’t die! Yes!” also “How far do I have to walk to the car again?”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
30:32 at Last Call 2017

Bill Lamers

How long have you been running?
Four plus decades, but there was never a finish line until 2015.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Local. Well run and organized. Variety of races. Price is always right. The people: So friendly!

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
You know, I don’t start looking for a run until about four weeks out. In that bucket, however, is a hope list: To still be running in my 80’s and beyond.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Ant-Man. Unexpected things pop up, but he persists. Also, his humor.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Hate to sound vague, but I don’t have a ‘favorite’ summer piece of gear. Anytime I can put on a short-sleeved shirt and shorts is ‘favorite’. My running shirts are a collection of those no longer suitable for daily wear.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
I bought a running jacket a couple years ago. It’s light weight and somewhat like a green house, keeping me warm and toasty on those cold winter runs.

What was your worst race experience?
Green Bay Marathon. You train for months, then... you get sick. I ran it anyway, to the finish. It destroyed me during and for weeks/months afterwards. The memory would nag me for the next year almost every time I ran.

What is your favorite race?
So many. I enjoyed the Lake Michigan Marathon, but it sadly no longer exists. First and Last Call Halves, because they get me ready (First Call) and keep me going (Last Call). The DoLittle Marathon rates as the reigning favorite as it wiped out the nagging memory of Green Bay.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Right Foot...Left Foot...Right Foot...Left Foot...STOP.”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it? I don’t keep track. But that said: I have yet to run my 5K PR.

Being lost on a trail run.

The Graveyard 5K!

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
42 minutes at most of the SCSE races.

Paul Hartwig

How long have you been running?
9 years

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Always well organized and run well. All around, some of the best bang for your buck.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Boston Marathon

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Peter Quill from the Guardians of the Galaxy. He’s a pretty normal guy who has great people around him and he has a quirky personality, which is lot like mine.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
2” split shorts and a singlet because that’s what all the cool kids wear!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Tights and 2-4 layers up top with a windproof jacket, again because that’s what all the cool kids wear!

What was your worst race experience?
High School Cross Country my senior year at the Conference Meet; I went out waaaaayyyyy too hard in mile 1 and tanked hard the next 2.

What is your favorite race?
The last one I PR’d at or Ragnar Chicago.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Damn, I hauled ass!”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
17:26 - not a formal race, just a time trial within a training block. I don’t race formal 5K’s very often.

Steve Zyduck

How long have you been running?
Started running in the Army in 1983. Continued for a couple years after I reentered civilian life. Life happened and I took a 27 year couch potato break. Started again in early 2016. Getting at FitBit was the catalyst to get me moving again. Had to make the daily step goal! Walking took too long, so I started running. It was a hard road back since I spent 20 years as a field service copier tech which was not kind to my knees. Wanted to run the two mile Dylan’s Run for Autism after walking it for many, many years. I did it and actually placed in my age group!

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
I was brought into Silver Circle Sports Events by my wife. She has been active in SCSE for years and is a hero to many of us. She talked me into going to a couple events, but since she always volunteered and runs way faster than me, I never really saw her. I met a couple people in this ultra-friendly environment and I was invited to join a team called the Trailgators. The organizer suggested I also join TeamSCSE. I did and this opened up a whole new world for me. People to talk to that have a common interest. Always a friendly face. Lots of watermelon after races. An approachable and friendly staff that takes feedback to heart. The variety of different running series is also great. Trail series, winter race series, holidays… there is always something going on; there is even beer after many of the races! TeamSCSE also has weekly team runs and has expanded into team bike rides as well. Who wouldn’t want to be part of this?!

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
The Lakefront Marathon was my main goal for the year.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
The Flash. Why? Because he runs… I also used him in my trash talk in a bet a few of us have to support the team charity G9 - Gold in September.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Anything sleeveless. Hate sleeves in the summer. Gotta show off the old man arms!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Lots of sleeves… and layers. I hate to be cold. I will over dress and regret it later.

What was your worst race experience?
Summerfest Half Marathon. Was my first half marathon. Due to a work event I didn’t have a good week leading up to it. Then the pace group I was with didn’t understand that the clock on the course was gun time and not their start time and sprinted up the Hoan Bridge to make up time. Burned me out for the rest of the race and kind of ruined it for me.

What is your favorite race?
Any race I can place in or PR in.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Don’t trip on the mats; somebody probably has a camera.”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
24:06 Graveyard 5K in Oct 2018

Carly Uhlrich

How long have you been running?
2 years

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
When I first started running, I would run in all different races put on by all different companies. SCSE was the first one where the people were INVITING! It didn’t matter how slow I was or how new I was or how much of the name brand gear I had. They just welcomed me, plain and simple. They celebrated my accomplishments, sometimes even when I didn’t. To be honest, the Average Jane title is still my goal! I’m not there, but one day…

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Make the top half of Average Jane and complete 30 races this year.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Duh! Wonder woman! I’m a Previvor running 3 10Ks in 3 weeks, one of which was my first trail 10K that happened to be Lapham, less than 3 months post-double mastectomy.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Tank tops! I hate running in all of the bulk. Also, my flip belt and my visor(s).

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
My Craft base layer leggings and my knee-high pink ribbon compression socks.

What was your worst race experience?
Coming in second to last on my very first (and untrained) half marathon. I don’t even count that one; that’s how bad it went for me.

What is your favorite race?
Run Like a Mother in Wauwatosa. I love when my kids run with me and we get to make it a family affair, doing what I want and no one else!

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“I did it!” and “I tried my best.”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
35:06 at the Big Berry Run for the Kids on 6/24/17.

Emmett Wagner

Emmett Wagner may only be 9 years old, but he is no stranger to running. He completed his first 5K shortly after his 5th birthday in March of 2015 - his little legs finished the Irish Jig Jog in Watertown in 43:16 alongside his Mom, Nikki, and big sister, Cooper.

After hearing the cheers from the crowd as he crossed the finish line, he was hooked. He completed the Winter Run Series through Lighthouse Events and earned the nickname “Little Chill”. He was the youngest runner they had at the ripe old age of 5 and he was able to place in the top 10 of his age group (0-15) at every race.

In 2015, his 5K PR was 29:37. In 2016, he completed his first trail race with SCSE and completed the Wisconsin Trail Assail Series in both 2017 and 2018, finishing 2nd and 3rd overall in his age group. He has also run many road races including the Traveling Beer Garden Series, The Color Run, and the Monster Dash. He completed the Fight for Air Climb in 2017 in memory of his Grandma Nancy, climbing 1,034 steps in 12 minutes.

Now, at age 9, he continues to run 5K’s and is part of Team SCSE – Smells Like Team Spirit. His 5K PR time now stands at 25:47. His goal is to be able to do the 10K Wisconsin Trail Assail Series next year, and someday be able to do the Tough Mudder.

When Emmett is not running, he enjoys playing football and Fortnite. When he grows up, he says he wants to play professional football.

How long have you been running?
For 5ish years, maybe more.

What superhero do you relate to and why?
Pass... I don’t know much about the superhero world, so I have no idea who I would even relate to.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
My SCSE tank and my Goodr sunglasses. The tank because it doesn’t make me hot and my Goodr sunglasses because they are awesome!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Winter running?! What’s that?! I try to avoid winter running cuz it’s too cold.

What was your worst race experience?
Run Like a Mother 4 or 5 years ago. The weather was cold and sleeting and after I finished, I felt like I couldn’t get warm again. I was so cold, so that memory has stuck with me.

I really have enjoyed Dances with Dirt!

What is the first thought when you cross the finish line?
“Yay! I survived another race!”

What’s your 5k pr and what race did you earn it?

Colleen Evans

How long have you been running?
I ran track and cross country in high school. Ran on and off since then, but not consistently until May of last year.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Why not? I've made more friends in the last few months than I have in my entire life. Being on Team SCSE takes me back to my high school running days. Didn't realize how much I missed that team comradery until I joined.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
I don't really have a bucket list; I just do races for fun. But, I would like to try an obstacle race like Tough Mudder someday.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Michelangelo (TMNT) because I can be a big smarta$$ and kick your butt.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Just a comfy pair of shorts and a t-shirt

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
My Wisconsin Badger track pants that I found at a thrift store. Lightweight, but surprisingly warm.

What was your worst race experience?
The Almost Done Pioneer run at Carroll University 2 years ago. Fun course, but not very well marked and very few people directing runners where to go.

What is your favorite race?
Bastille Days. Nothing beats running the streets of Milwaukee after dark with several thousand other people both running and cheering you on.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Pause Mapmyrun” and “what's my time?”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
24:09 at First Call March 2019.

Tara Riehl

How long have you been running?
My entire life; it began with having to outrun my older brother and his evil dirt bike. My kindergarten gym teacher wrote on my report card, “consider distance running in high school; paces well.” I wasn’t pacing myself—I just can’t sprint. I took the advice anyway.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
I read an article about the launch of the Wisconsin Trail Assail series quite a few years ago, and it said something about former cross country runners and gun starts in a field. I knew I’d find my people there.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Crater Lake Rim Run and any other national/state park trail race.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
… Catwoman… ?? She’s super slinky and sly and that’s not me, but I like cats.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
My Run Dirty team hat because people always ask about it.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Kahtoolah microspikes. You can scamper on ice without a single slip.

What was your worst race experience?
Lakefront Marathon 2016. I had a fever and cough, and it was pouring and cold. It was miserable and set me back health-wise for months. Also, road marathons =   .

What is your favorite race?
National Watermelon Day Run at Pike Lake, despite the fact that everyone falls on the course. It’s a great way to spend your morning if you can stick around— the Glacial Trail Runners bring their paddle boards/kayaks.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“WHERE MY TEAM/FAMILY AT?!”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
21:27 at Milwaukee’s Great Gobble Wobble just a few days before my dad passed away in 2015. I got to tell him about one last race/PR.

Kim Sherman

How long have you been running?
Since 2012, with the objective to help relieve some stress. It works!

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
The events are located too close to home not to participate.  Also, staff and volunteers are the best around.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
My short-term goal is to complete a 50-miler next year; I’m using Run S’more 24 as my trial run. Completing an Ironman is a long-term goal.

What Superhero do you relate to and why? The Flash because I’m incredibly speedy! Kidding, I’m slow and steady. But I daydream quite frequently about breaking running records!

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Baseball cap… keeps the sun out of my eyes and soaks up all my nasty dripping sweat.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
You’ll rarely find me running outside in winter. Earbuds and a good audiobook are necessary to distract myself from a tedious treadmill run.

What was your worst race experience?
Milwaukee Brewers Mini Marathon 2015. I was overconfident and undertrained for this one. I painfully finished 35+ minutes longer than I was anticipating. I was also on a time crunch this day for my sister-in-law’s wedding. My awesome husband, who was in the wedding party, still patiently waited for me at the finish line.

What is your favorite race?
Milwaukee Marathon, mainly because this was the very first marathon I completed.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Eww, I stink. Where is the food & beer?”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
I honestly have no idea. I rarely participate in 5k’s, and when I do, its with family and friends as a fun group activity. As stated before, I’m not very speedy. I can’t imagine my PR would be anything groundbreaking.

Andrea Breen

How long have you been running?
I had been a fun 5k runner for a while, but have recently recommitted to it, starting with the SCSE Flannel 5k, February 2019.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
A friend invited me to the Flannel 5K, and Steve Schwan has talked about it.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
I committed to the SCSE Trail Series 5k this year, and have committed to repeating it in 2020 as a 10k, then in 2021 as a Half, and eventually want to run a Marathon in 2021.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Elastigirl, because I need to be more flexible (physically and mentally).

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Dry wick shirts!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
My fuzzy Nike hoodie; it’s stretchy, has zippered pockets to keep things from falling out, and has thumb holes.

What was your worst race experience?
Haven’t had a bad one yet!

What is your favorite race?
One where I make it across the finish line. The “Run the Bastille” last year was neat because it was at night.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“I DID THAT!”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
I’m still really starting from scratch.  I did finish the “Run Like a Mother” trail race about 5 minutes faster than I guessed I would.  I’d like to run enough 5Ks that I can say I have a PR and an average pace.

Lesli Minder

How long have you been running?
Since the 2010 Green Bay Half Marathon.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
It’s affordable, tries to minimize waste, has a ton of racing options, and the races are really well organized.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
My dream event is the NYC Marathon, but I should probably run an actual marathon first.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Captain America, because I am rule abiding and geeky, I don’t cuss, and my soul is from a different era.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Feetures socks because they support my arch and prevent blisters.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
A good pair of running tights because my legs are always the coldest part of my body.

What was your worst race experience?
Training for the Superior Man Half Iron Distance Tri but having to drop out of the race a week before the start when I crashed my bike in my last training ride of the buildup.

What is your favorite race?
Minocqua Triathlon.  It is a gorgeous course with not too many participants.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Must…have…water…”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
32:23 at the Kampmeyer Memorial Run in Colby, WI.

Mike Rogodzinski

How long have you been running?

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Most welcoming group of people you could ever run with and the variety of different runs/distances SCSE has to offer. From trail runs to flat roads to “some” hills to winter runs and so many more, literally, there is an event that fits everyone.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
S’more 24, coming up soon. Las Vegas Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon. Any duathlon, if I ever buy a bike.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
I have no clue. Not really up on my superhero knowledge.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Junk headband; keeps my head cool while keeping the sweat off my face.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Any compression leg sleeves. As I only like to run in shorts, the sleeves keep my legs warm.

What was your worst race experience? Last Call Half 2018.
The amazing weather + my stomachache = “why am I doing this” moment.

What is your favorite race?
Door County Half Marathon, it’s a beautiful course and it was the first run I had ever done.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line? “Stop the watch” and “Now I can eat whatever I want!”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it? 21:40 at Nada Dash VII 2017

Andrea Webb

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events? Relaxed atmosphere, great volunteers and post-race food!

What event(s) are on your running bucket list? Vermont 100k, Pike’s Peak marathon, Kettle Moraine 100

What Superhero do you relate to and why? Elastagirl. I want to teach my kids about identity, so I have one outside of them; but I’m still home for homework and dinner.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why? INKnBURN skirt. Lightweight, stays in place, and giant pockets!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why? Hot hands and theracare heat packs for my shoulders. I keep them on ‘til I’ve warmed up.

What was your worst race experience? It has nothing to do with the race itself, but Lakefront Marathon. It was my first time pacing the 5:30 group &  I felt off the day of the run, but pushed it aside thinking it was pre-race nerves. It wasn’t nerves, it was the start of the norovirus that hit at mile 10 and I stopped at mile 18.

What is your favorite race? Nike Women’s Marathon. Nothing compares to your first time.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line? “When can I do this again?!”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it? Ohh, 5k’s are hard.  You have to go fast and I’m more of a “run, snack, run” kinda gal.

Charles Burghaus

How long have you been running?
My daughter got me into it and our first run together was The Santa Hustle on December 22, 2012, so about 6.5 years. With little training I completed the run, but back then, I felt more like I had been trampled by Dasher than I had soared like Dancer.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
The SCSE team takes setting up the race, timing it, and the all the other things seriously. But then they still make it a relaxed, fun event that welcomes all runners. What other company gives an award to the male and female runners who finish exactly in the middle of their gender?!

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
There really aren’t any, but I am looking forward to hearing about the trips that Katie Osborne’s travel company (Silver Circle Destinations) is planning.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
The Greatest American Hero. For you youngsters, it was a primetime show in the early 80s. It was your average guy given a special superhero outfit, bumbling around, trying to do his best and having everything come out OK in the end.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
My daughter gave me an orange tank with the image of a shoe with a flame coming out of it. This matches the tattoo we each have on one of our calves. Below the shoe is a list of all the runs we had done together up to that point. If you look at the list of races, it closely resembles the bottom of a shoe.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Any of my warm gloves. I can be sweating, but still have cold hands.

What was your worst race experience?
The Milwaukee Marathon in 2017. The list of what went wrong is long, but let’s go with the most comical: the microphone on my headphones was picking up the wind and my iPod was reacting as though I was talking to it. It would play a song for 10 seconds, restart, play it for a minute and then go to the next song. Then things got interesting because it got off the playlist and started playing anything and everything on my iPod including Christmas music.

What is your favorite race?
First Call is one of my favorites. A flat course, we are coming out of winter, and the weather is usually about perfect. I even liked it in 2018 when it was super windy, overcast, and spitting rain.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
With the new TeamSCSE Boost Zone, it is “Can I recover quickly enough to catch as many of my friends/teammates finishing as possible?”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
It was the Drumstick Dash in 2015 with a time of 22:54. It was going so well, I was surprised when I realized I had only 1 mile left, but still had a lot of strength and energy. Not sure I will ever get that feeling again.

Duncan Gillis

How long have you been running?
I played soccer in college, so always did running to stay in shape, but I took it up more seriously after graduating. I only recently started doing races.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Friendly staff, well run events, positive atmosphere; it’s all good!

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Salt Lake City Marathon. I grew up in Salt Lake. Since leaving, both my brother and I have gotten much more into running and want to run it together.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Don’t know that I particularly relate to one, but I’d say Thor is my favorite superhero. I’ve always been interested in mythology.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Ipod shuffle, so I can rock out while running.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
I have a Nike dri-fit quarter zip that has flaps that fold over your hands instead of gloves. It keeps me very warm; love it!

What was your worst race experience?
I’ve only been racing for a very short time, and so far I wouldn’t say I’ve had a bad experience!

What is your favorite race?
I loved the First Call half marathon this year!

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“What was my time?”  Then I convince myself to cool down and stretch.

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
I haven’t actually done a 5K race; I enjoy the longer distances more. According to my Garmin, during a training run, I had a 5K segment in 19:37.

Dan Wenzel

How long have you been running?
Since the 2017 Beer Garden 5K Series

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
They’re fun events with fun people.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Ragnar, which I’ll be crossing off in a couple weeks, and the National Parks races look pretty cool.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Well, I’m awesome, so I’d have to say Peter Quill, but there’s another name you might know me by: Star Lord.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Anything without sleeves because sun’s out, guns out.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Anything warm because I hate the cold.

What was your worst race experience?
2018 Hot Cider Hustle 10 mile because it was miserably cold, rainy weather. For 10 miles.

What is your favorite race?
Brewers Racing Sausages 5K

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Where’s the beer?”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?

Tony Gargulak

My wife forced me to start running about 3ish years ago.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Because the company and team keep running fun.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Ragnar, national parks half marathon, Star Wars Disney run

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Deadpool because I'm a giant smart a$$.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Brooks Ghost shoes; it’s like running on clouds.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Craft bike gloves because they are flippy-floppy mitten things.

What was your worst race experience?
Nashotah park trail run last year when some yahoo moved the cones and cut the course short.

What is your favorite race?
Disney Half marathon during wine n dine!

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Where is my beer?”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
21:52 at Last Call 2018

Rebecca Krause

How long have you been running?
11 months and 13 days... but who's counting?

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
I ran a few beer garden races and first met Steve Schwan and Andi Kornowski; they may not remember, but their kindness lured me in and here I am.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
The RunDisney Star Wars Rival Challenge - it is a 10K on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday. Also, Grand Circle Trailfest looks incredible!

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Clearly, I am the 5th Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Eat pizza, drink beer, kick butt, repeat.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
I am still working on that. Last summer I was a newbie and still working out the kinks. My hydroactive hat and Goodr sunglasses are staples; oh, and sunblock... lots of sunblock!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Hands down my Oisella Wazzie Wool base layer, my Flyout vest, and my wool compression socks. This winter was my first time running in the cold and I learned really quickly how to dress for it!

What was your worst race experience?
Last Call 2018... the weather was terrible and I was having stomach issues. Hindsight being what it is, I should have done myself a favor and switched from the 10 to the 5K.

What is your favorite race?
Well, the Vets Day race was the first and only time I have ever placed, so, for selfish reasons, I think back fondly on that race. The Two Rivers 10 miler was a
recent favorite because I had company for half of it.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Smile don’t grimace; are you grimacing?”, “Crap, did you start your Garmin? Crap, turn off your Garmin!”, “Where are my people?”, “Is there beer?”, “I'm hungry.”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?

Bryce Remy

How long have you been running?
9 years

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
It is like my family that runs. My actual family doesn't run, but it is amazing to get support and encouragement/encourage others who share the same passion.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
The Boston Marathon (4/15/19). I have been playing the lottery into Berlin, London, St George, and Tokyo, as well.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
I relate to Batman the most because I run at night and feel like a super hero jumping over all the snowbanks.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
A good pair of Saucony Kinvara running shoes. It's like running on marshmallows. If you haven't tried them yet, I always recommend them.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Definitely all thermal gear. I despise the cold, so I like to be nice and toasty. The treadmill is a close second so I can avoid the cold.

What was your worst race experience?
I ran a race where the organizers forgot it was going on. Imagine 300 runners showing up at the park for a race that wasn't set up at all. It wasn't a fun experience for any of us.

What is your favorite race?
A tie between Zachariah's Acres and the NYC marathon. ZA provides a beautiful course with different scenery changes. The NYC marathon had over 2.5 million spectators this past year, which definitely helps you crush those hills, I mean... bridges.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
Normally, I feel like I am dying by the time I get to within 2 miles of the finish, so when I cross the finish line, I always think, "this race didn't kill me".

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
17:01 at the Midwest Cross Country Championships at UW-Parkside.

Pam Koehler

How long have you been running?
Oh boy… I was on track in grade school. High school, I joined cross country senior year because the coach kept asking me to; he was the math teacher as well, so I thought if I joined, he would pass me (I was really bad at math). I just barely passed.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
I remember when I started running with SCSE, I think, 3 years ago. I really liked it because the races were not thousands of people. The atmosphere was great & Sean always made me laugh at the races. I felt he was down to earth.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Lakefront Marathon in Oct. I would also like to do a destination race - one of the National Parks, just don’t know which one. Which one has the fewest bears?

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
I’m going to say Wonder Woman- her super powers include super strength, speed, stamina, and fight; all of which, I need to get me through each and every run that I do.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Not sure I really have one. I did buy a Camelback vest that holds 2 water bottles that I wore for my first trail half last year, so, I guess I’ll say that. Worked great!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Anything that keeps me warm!!!!

What was your worst race experience?
The Summerfest Rock n Sole about 3 years ago maybe. I was supposed to do a half that I talked my friend Stephanie into. I had shin splints that I could not get under control, but I continued to run on them. Well, I ended up downgrading to a 10k during the race and I could hardly walk the next day. I went to an ortho doc & got diagnosed with a stress fracture, ughhhh! Listen to your body, folks; not worth it!

What is your favorite race?
I just started trail running a couple of years ago. LOVE Ragnar Northwoods and Run S’more 24. Love hanging/camping with friends and running in the woods at night (though I’m a little freaked about the woods at night part).

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“Thank God that is over!”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
I just recently PR’d at Yule Twinkle All the Way 2018 @ 23:39.

Colin Tetkoski

How long have you been running?
Well, I ran two years in high school, but started seriously running in July of 2018, so, about 9 months so far.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Silver Circle Sports Events gives me a reason to stay healthy and gives me a chance to make more friends.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Ironman 70.3 by 25; full Ironman by 30.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Bucky Barnes, aka, The Winter Soldier. We both are trying to overcome our pasts to become better people.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Tough Mudder finisher headband because I look good in orange. Just kidding, I sweat a lot while I run and it
keeps the sweat out of my eyes.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Under Armour pants and shirt. I would prefer to stay warm and potentially overheat than be miserably cold.

What was your worst race experience?
Brewers Racing Sausages 5K in 2018. That was my first competitive race since I was 15. It was, let's just
say... rough. Ask my dad, Jen, or Dan about it. They will tell you plenty of stories.

What is your favorite race?
Either Tough Mudder or Wish You Were Here

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
"Wow, I actually did it, go me!"

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
24:16 at The Big Chill 2019 in the Lighthouse Winter Run Series.

Judi Mulkey

How long have you been running?
Without being chased... 7 years.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
I love the food at the end of the trail assail series! The events are always fun because we have a great team!

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
I want to do a run in every state. I currently have 8 done and I want to do the 7 Mile Bridge Run in Florida.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
I’m gonna go with Deadpool because I like his sense of humor.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
My flip belt. It holds a water bottle that curves to my back and then I don’t have to hold it.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
This super cheap jacket I got that is really warm and rolls up into a little ball so it’s easy to carry.

What was your worst race experience?
I was in St. Louis doing a 5k and my calf cramped up about half way through the race. I had to start limping and I heard someone in front of me yell that someone was hurt on the course, so I started running again and then had to stop when I saw the EMT guy pass me. I literally fell into my husband's arms at the finish.  I pulled a Pete Fanning and took 4th in my age group.

What is your favorite race?
Tie between Watermelon Trail Assail at Pike Lake with the awesome trails and Harborview 8k running through Pirate Fest.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
"Where is the food?" and "I want a mimosa."

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
Honestly, I don’t know... (gasp!). I think it’s 25:07 at Sweet Home Milwaukee, but my goal is a sub-25, so I just always shoot for that.

Jennifer Aultman Kloth

How long have you been running?
I started running in the spring of 2011. I ran my first 5K that May - Ann's Hope Melanoma Run; haven't missed a year.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
I started running with SCSE because of their volunteer program.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
70.3 and 50K - go big or go home!

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
I'm not up on my Superheroes.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
My pink hand held water bottle. I never run without it. The "why" is a long story; come find me at the Running Ambassador table!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
My Reebox fleece lined pants!

What was your worst race experience?
There is no such thing as a bad race experience as long as you learn from it and find the positives. Ask me about my last marathon.

What is your favorite race?
Run S'more 24! A close second would be my first tri - Lake Country 2016!

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
2 thoughts - "Thank God it's finished!" and "Oh man, I'm sad it's over."

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
25:43 at Ann's Hope 5K - I think it was 2014 - I was injured and didn't plan on PR'ing that day; it came as a bit of a surprise!

Steve Schwan

Hi all, it's an honor to be your featured runner this week! I'm a Running Ambassador for Silver Circle and enjoy being the "Sweeper" at our Half Marathon and longer races. Say hi to me any time; I’d love to meet you!

How long have you been running?
I started running January 1st, 2011. I ran a mile on my treadmill... and it hurt! Yet, I was determined. My sister Sally, who had run in countless events, was my inspiration, and she encouraged me to sign up for a 5K a few months out. It was the Trailbreaker 5K at Frame park: a flat and paved course in perfect temps. I remember walking 3 times, wondering how all these people could run 3 miles without stopping??? But once finished, I was hooked! Ever since, I've been running at least one race a month.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Silver Circle rocks! I know it’s a combination of the Race Director, Staff, #TeamSCSE, and the courses... my favorite being the Trail Assails.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?Coming up this year, I am set to run the Boston Marathon in April, my 1st 50 mile Ultra at Run S'more 24, and then my 1st Ironman in Madison this September.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
In personality, it would be Spiderman as I’m a reluctant super hero with sometimes witty, yet smart aleck, remarks.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Let’s talk racing gear! I wear my CW-X Stabilyx Ventilator shorts ever since they helped me recover from a knee injury all the way to Boston Qualifying. I stick with stuff that works for me. Next would be my Saucony Kinvara shoes: light, fast, responsive.... the moment I slip them on, I know it’s "race day". For summer tops, it's my TeamSCSE Trailgator T- shirt!

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Again, I choose CW-X, but the full length Perform-x tights. I will switch to trail shoes (Salomon or Brooks) at the slightest hint of icing.

What was your worst race experience?
My very 1st race, they ran out of my size shirts and I registered way before cut off. You may think it was the 90 degree full marathon, or the 10 below zero Samson Stomp, or leg cramps that brought me to a dead stop, but nope, it was the shirt.

What is your favorite race?
Most rewarding was the Indianapolis Marathon, but my favorite is the Run S'more 24. It combines my love of camping, running, the great outdoors, and a couple hundred of my best friends... some of whom I haven't even met yet!

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
A feeling of accomplishment! Then, I check my time.

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
July 18th, 2018 at the State Fair Cream Puff 5K I ran a 22:18. And yes, the Creme Puff was delicious!

Pete Fanning

How long have you been running?
Since 2016. I'd been working out since 2015 and even lost 50 pounds, but then I turned 50, got told I needed to get screened for Colon Cancer, and, what do you know, they actually found some! I had surgery in early 2016 to remove it and, after that, found I couldn't do my normal workout because my core was messed up. It was then that I turned to running as a way to get some exercise and I've been running ever since. I am so happy I did because now I'm associated with such a fun bunch of people!

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Because this organization has some of the best people I have ever been associated with. I love the fact that SCSE welcomes folks from all walks of life, in any shape or size, and provides them with tons of encouragement to achieve their running goals!

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
I want to run the "Rocky Run" Half in Philadelphia and also the Mount Rushmore Half. Those two are at the top of my list.
What Superhero do you relate to and why?

The Incredible Hulk. Think back to the old TV series with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno and remember that that show was about a lonely scientist trying to find a way to cure the raging anger that dwelled within him. For some reason I identified with David Banner then and still do now. I find myself searching for a way to improve myself, all while going it alone. Except I'm really not alone, am I? I have many running friends now who I can count on for support.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Brooks shorts and a decent tank top. My preferences for running shoes are Saucony and Brooks. I never go anywhere without my Garmin Forerunner 645 Music watch and a bluetooth headset to go with it. On hotter days I'll wear a headband to keep the sweat out of my eyes.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
I am a big baby when it comes to running in the cold. So I layer up probably more than I should but my absolute favorite piece of gear is my pair of Craft gloves (thank you Teri for the recommendation!). Other than that, anything that keeps me warm is my favorite.

What was your worst race experience?
I don't think I have had seriously bad experiences at all, but if I had to point to one it would also have been one of my best race experiences. It was my first Lakefront Marathon last year. It was one of my best because, I mean come on, I finished a Marathon!!!! It has also been my worst because, as I always do, I shot out of the start like a bat out of heck and absolutely RUINED my legs for the last few miles. Those last few miles were torture and that will stick in my memory for a while. Still finished though.

What is your favorite race?
I'd have to say the Dolittle Half in September, because I apparently can absolutely CRUSH that race (I PR'd it by 10 minutes last time!)

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
"Stop the watch!" and "Where are my teammates?"

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
24:13 at last year's "Race with the Sausages" at Miller Park.

Teri Gargulak

How long have you been running? I ran track all four years of high school, took a hiatus through college and a handful of years after, and then started getting serious about running and races again in the Fall of 2016.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events? I run with Silver Circle because their events are positive, engaging, and friendly. Even before I joined #TeamSCSE, I still felt like I was a part of ‘something’ at their events. Plus, free cookies and watermelon after the Trial Assail events! And maybe the free beer has something to do with it, too...

What event(s) are on your running bucket list? I would love to complete every single one of the Vacation Races half marathons at the National Parks!

What Superhero do you relate to and why? I honestly can say that I have never watched a single ‘superhero’ movie, or read a comic book, so I don’t have the faintest idea who I would relate to! Why don’t you tell me who I relate to?

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why? I have a cooling headband from Mission that is awesome in the summer! You get it wet before you put it on, and it helps keep your body temperature regulated while you run.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why? This is a tie between my Craft gloves and my Blender sunglasses. The gloves are windproof and water resistant, moisture-wicking, and keep my hands so warm that I usually end up taking them off after 2 miles. The sunglasses are great to stop snow/ice/sleet from getting into my eyes and to protect from that terrible sun/snow glare!

What was your worst race experience? Froemming Park Beer Garden 5K in 2017. This was when we had a crazy hot/humid streak in June - I had volunteered at the US Open all day, hadn’t really eaten much, and then tried to PR at the race. It did not end well for me - I couldn’t even enjoy my free beer!

What is your favorite race? To date, it has been the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon, which I did this past November! I am a Disney nerd and getting to run to and through the different parks when they aren’t open was an incredible experience. Plus, the whole weekend is geared towards the runners, so there is a lot to do outside of the race itself.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line? “Stop the Garmin and don’t make a disgusting face until you are out of range of the cameras.”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it? 24:18 at Last Call 2017 - we got a 60something degree sunny day in December and a ton of people PR’ed - it was really cool to witness.

Jen Johnson

Jen is a timer with SCSE and this photo was taken at a costume themed run. It is the first and last time we have seen her in a "skirt" and she earned the nickname "Princess" because of it. When Jen isn't hiding in the timing trailer, you will see her helping with equipment and then running events.

How long have you been running?
I started running in the summer of 2010.

Why do you run with Silver Circle Sports Events?
Beer Garden Series; need I say more?

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
I’d love to run a race in every state.

What Superhero do you relate to and why?
Deadpool. I’ve got a mouth on me, but I generally use it to fight for the little guy.

What’s your favorite summer running gear and why?
Goodr sunglasses: they stay on my face, look great in pictures, and are basically an Instagram filter for the world.

What’s your favorite winter running gear and why?
Goodr sunglasses: they’re like a windshield for your face. Really, though, my Saucony Peregrine Ice + shoes helped me win an icy race not too long ago.

What was your worst race experience?
Summerfest Rock N Sole 2011 (the very first year and my very first half marathon).  So hot, so unprepared (both the event and my training), so awful.

What is your favorite race?
Any race with beer at the finish line.

What is the first thought you have when you cross the finish line?
“BEER ME!” Sometimes, also: “Don’t puke; there are cameras!”

What’s your 5K PR and at what race did you earn it?
24:12 at The Elf Run 2018.

How long have you been on #TeamSCSE?
I have been on #TeamSCSE since the beginning of this team and have run SCSE events since Summit Fest 2014.

Why did you join #TeamSCSE?
I run with #TeamSCSE because Sean Osborne approached me at Summit Fest and asked if I would run more races. I liked that he approached me and took an interest in me.

What event(s) are on your running bucket list?
Chicago Marathon. Entered twice in 1981 & 1982 but scratched due to injury both times.

People not "signaling" stops or turns in races.

If you weren't living here, what foreign country would you live in?
New Zealand or Australia.

What Superhero do you relate to?
The Flash.

What was your worst race experience?
Nearly getting heat stroke at Chicago distance Classic 20K in 1982. Nearly died. Tunnel vision, chills, and goose bumps on a 90 degree day with 100% humidity.

Any race I can still run.

5K PR
